In this book the lifecycle of the Dutch inshore minesweepers of the Van Straelen-class is covered. The history of all the ships, starting with the construction, the operational use and ending with the decommissioning and their life afterwards upon the scraping.
All facts, operations, mishaps and exercises are mentioned in an extensive chapter.
Also a special part is dedicated to the persons after whom the ships were named. All these men got a royal gallantry medal (most posthumous) for their actions during World War II and actions in the Netherlands Indies after this war.
The fate of the ships after their Naval life is named.

The author is a retired naval officer with 30 years of active duty with the Dutch minesweeping service. In 1966 he was appointed to commanding officer of an inshore minesweepers.
