Dutch Merchant Navy 1950-1959 is the first volume of a series of books to shed light on the merchant navy per decade. The books will take you back to the early part of the twentieth century and follow ships and shipping companies up to and into the twentyfirst century. The short text and many photographs of ships, ports and other illustrations will show you how it was in those days.

Photographs speak for themselves and often say more than words. The first volume will show lots of older ships, but also new-built ships that followed the events of World War II. These where the glorious years of the Dutch merchant navy. Almost every day saw a new ship slide off the slipway of one of the shipbuilding yards in the north of the Netherlands and sometimes more than one coaster was launched in one day. Sailors were never short of work.
